What is Spiritual Direction?

Spiritual direction is a powerful tool for anyone looking to deepen their faith and connect more with God.

Unlike other spiritual practices, it involves a companion to accompany you on your spiritual journey.

A spiritual direction session is both a contemplative and dialectic encounter whereby the director and directee both seek to hold space for God to reveal truth, move hearts, and help discern what actions may need to be taken in challenging situations that life presents.

Directees usually meet once a month for an hour session. Over time, the directee learns what it feels like to consistently be directed back to how God is moving in their own hearts.  Processing spiritual issues verbally or in silence with a director can quickly become a beloved practice and powerful tool for growth and transformation.

While it is not counseling, it may feel similar in some ways.  Amy is well connected with licensed mental health practitioners to make referrals if issues become clinical.

Meet Amy Bird

Amy embraces a lot of mystery in her own faith and as a Spiritual Director.

She is drawn to work with those experiencing deconstruction and reconstruction and can incorporate any of the following into your work together:

  • Enneagram work

  • Meditation and other spiritual practices

  • Creativity

  • Dream work

  • Internal Family Systems Theory

  • Intersection of spirituality and sexuality and related LGBTQIA+ issues

  • Processing church related trauma or spiritual abuse

  • Digesting books and other content together

Amy desires her directees to get more in touch with their true self and to find the boldness to offer their true self to the world around them.

As a highly sensitive person and empath, Amy is gifted at creating a safe space for people to explore their deepest questions about life, process life’s ups and downs, and figure out what it means to be a fully alive human being.
